Here we go again…

August 11, 2009 | 1 Comment

Tomorrow morning the mold rememdiation crew will invade our home. Our bathroom walls will be cut about 3 or 4 feet up and once they can see inside the walls, we’ll know the extent of the damage. (Please, Lord, let it be minimal).

One might think that because it’s just the bathroom, it wouldn’t affect our lives so much. Think again. Since it’s the shower that Collin uses, we had to remove the door and shower doors on our other bathroom so he can use that one while the moldy one is out of commssion. (If you’re new here, Collin is in a wheelchair, so special accommodations need to be made. It’s not just that he’s picky about his shower, but wouldn’t that be a hoot?). So, that means that we need to change our morning routine, which we have down to a fine art.

Also, because there’s a chance that Elyana’s walls are also affected, we had to clear out her entire closet. I don’t know about you, but other than clothes, closets are where I put stuff that I don’t really want to deal with. Translation: we have a lot of crap in that one closet. So, now, all of her clothes and all of our crap is in our dining room.

This brings back a lot of memories of when I was a kid and we remodeled our kitchen. My bedroom became the place where all of our kitchen stuff was stored, we did dishes in the bathtub and everything was all askew for what seemed like forever. I don’t even remember where I slept, I just remember that my daybed was storage for our pots, pans, crock pots, dishes and tupperware (it was a mighty big day bed). And I remember eating a lot of peanut butter and jelly. I digress.

Isn’t it crazy how a project can completely uproot your entire household? So, bear with my moodiness as nothing is in it’s place. Maybe you could pray for Collin, too. He’s a saint for putting up with me. All the time, not just during mold season.

We’ll keep you posted…

Happy Friday!

And, oh, what a happy day it is, because I got to stay home with Elyana today!  Our friday sitter’s daughter is sick with some icky, contagious virus, so that means vacation day for Mommy!

I’m so excited because there is a truck-load of things for me to do today.  Next week will begin the work on our bathroom to remove the mold, which means cutting out as much of the wall as is needed and men in big, scary, white suits to professionally remove all the mold.  We’re praying that it will only be the bathroom wall that needs to be cut out, but since that wall is also attached to Elyana’s room, there is the possibility that her wall will be affected and need to go as well.

So, today, I’ll be cleaning out her closet, trying to clean up the house and then, wait for it….wait for it….

WE’RE GOING SHOPPING!!!

Hooray, Mommy and daughter shopping together!  It is as the world is meant to be, I think.  And since I got a bunch of gift cards for my birthday, I can teach her how to shop frugally and within a very tight budget!  It’s never too early to start on life’s lessons, right?

6 months old and other family stuff

The “Almost” Smile…, originally uploaded by Full Circle Digital.

Well, our little Elyana is now 6 months old! I know, we can’t believe it either! She’s teething, sitting up, rolling over, trucking all over the place in her walker, saying ma ma ma ma, which I like to think is “Mama”, but I’m pretty sure it’s a just a noise she likes to hear.

I had my pesky gall bladder removed last Wednesday. I’m glad I did, too, because I had to endure a few very painful attacks. The surgery went smoothly and I’ve been home all week recovering. It’s been nice to get to be home with Elyana and I’m afraid I’m going to return to work kicking and screaming on Monday.

Here’s some fun news for ya: About a month ago, Collin and I noticed that our shower has been leaking. Kind of annoying, but we wanted to save up some money to have the 3 shower nozzels (hot, cold and shower/tub) turned into 1, which would make it much easier for Collin. Then, last week, we noticed that the little leak might be much worse since our baseboard looked all water-logged. I called our HOA who sent out a plumber who said it was leak, but doesn’t look too bad, he would send someone else out to look at the water damage to give us an estimate. That guy came out today and guess what? WE HAVE MOLD IN OUR WALLS FROM THIS STUPID LEAK!!!! If you know us, and I’m assuming that you do, since you’re reading this, mold is nothing new to us. We’re old pro’s when it comes to mold. Except that now, we have a daughter and the moldy wall is attached to her room. Not exactly what mommy wants to hear, right? Now I’m envisioning a child that will grow up to look like Chunk from The Goonies. Yes, my thoughts do go there that quickly.

So, that’s our latest saga. I’ve been in contact with our homeowners insurance who is going to send out an appraiser and we’ll move forward from there. We’re hoping and praying that the majority of the cost will be covered by our insurance and that the damage isn’t too horrible.

I do apologize for not blogging in so long. I have lots of excuses, but I won’t bore you with any of them. I should be fired from my job as a blogger, except that I don’t get paid for it, so there!

PS. Please go to the Orange County Fair and look for Collin’s picture of Elyana and Me. He won 2nd Place!!! I’m so incredibly proud of him!

Look at me!, originally uploaded by Full Circle Digital.

I’m officially 4 months old now (as of 5/20) and look how big and strong I am?I can roll over from my stomach to my back and I can hold myself up on my arms like this in the picture. I can only do it for so long…then I start to get really grumpy about it.

My Daddy took this photo with his new fancy pants camera. That’s all he keeps talking about. Well, that and the Lakers and how much he loves me!  My Mommy bought me this really cool crocheted hat during our trip up to Solvang. I hope you like it!

Oh yeah, about our trip to Solvang…It was a lot of fun. We went up there with Mommy and Daddy’s best friends TJ and Kristen and my BFF Olivia. We stayed over night in Buellton, just down the street from Pea Soup Andersons. I’m surprised my Daddy isn’t green today, since he went a little overboard on the all-you-can-eat pea soup special. We spent the day Saturday walking around downtown Solvang and again Mommy and Daddy ate way too much food and sweets. I guess they are just growing big just like me. :)
