Gaylord Focker???
April 20, 2008
I’m hoping you have all seen the movie Meet The Parents or Meet the Fockers, so you’ll get the humor of the title of this post. In short, Ben Stiller plays a male nurse in the movies and he gets ridiculed for his choice of career. I think if I chose the career path of being a nurse one of two things would have happened. People would have made fun of me too or I would have been horrible at it.
We are two days into giving Kyla’s stimulation medications (in the phanny, no less) and I am hoping my technique gets better over the next few days. Hearing a big “Oouucchh!!!” last night wasn’t what I was shooting for. Ha ha
I guess that it is going pretty well overall. Kyla is feeling quite achy all over her body, so we are not sure if this is a side effect of the medications or something else.
The procedures we have to go through to get these shots prepared is quite extensive. First, we get out two little bottles of medication that make Menopur (one is powder, the other liquid), a pen-shaped syringe that contains the medication Gonal-F, a large syringe with two different sized needles for it and some alcohol pads. From here, we have to mix the two little bottles of Menopur together and then add in the exact amount of the Gonal-F Medication. After that, we draw all of this combined medication back into the big ole syringe and get Kyla’s phanny ready for the shot. Thankfully, we switch to a smaller needle to actually give the shot…but it’s still quite large in my eyes.
A funny side note…When Kyla was at the Doctors office this past Thursday, the 17th, the nurse grabbed a big magic marker and drew two big circles on Kyla’s rear so I would have a target to hit. Thank God for that!! The first night I was down and to the left of the center of the circle, but last night I got a BULLSEYE!!!
Overall, I think we are both very excited and feel so blessed to be going through all of this together. Kyla is handling all the stress and shots in such an amazing way. It’s truly a testament to her strength and her willingness to let God be in control.
Thank you all for your continued support.
